Calcium and vitamin D are not the only nutrients to play a role in bone health. This meta-analysis examined the effect of zinc status on bone-health complications.

The study

It was a meta-analysis of 40 studies with over 14,000 total participants. The two main endpoints were the effects on bone health of (1) blood levels of zinc and (2) zinc intake through foods and supplements.

The results

No meaningful differences were found between the high-zinc-intake and low-zinc-intake groups, but overall, the higher the blood levels of zinc, the fewer and less severe the bone-health complications.
