Blood pressure was monitored over the course of 24 hours while the participants maintained their usual activities, and serum levels of glucose and insulin were assessed during 26-hour monitoring periods in a study ward. Oral glucose tolerance tests were administered, and insulin resistance was calculated using the HOMA-IR index and the Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check (QUICK) index.

Diurnal rhythms of plasma melatonin and cortisol levels were also measured, and sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.
