Irisin

Irisin is a myokine (i.e., a cytokine secreted by muscle cells in response to muscular contraction) derived from the FNDC5 protein. There is great interest in irisin for its potential roles in browning white fat cells, insulin sensitivity, neurogenesis, and bone metabolism.
