A vegan diet notably decreases fasting plasma glucose in obese and overweight adults with type 2 diabetes. The effects are similar to a conventional diabetes diet. However, even though vegan diets are linked to lower fasting glucose levels, clinical evidence is needed to prove a causal relationship.

16:8 doesn't seem to lower fasting glucose under all circumstances, but one study found that a group that placed their eating window early in the day lowered it compared to baseline.

Effects may be limited to people with Type 2 diabetes. Two trials of Type 2 diabetic patients found modest reductions in fasting blood glucose, but while a small trial of people with metabolic syndrome did find a reduction, it wasn't significantly different from yogurt control.
