Contrast sensitivity

Contrast sensitivity is a measure of visual function based on the amount of lightness or darkness needed to differentiate an object from its background. Some evidence indicates that, in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), contrast sensitivity may be impaired earlier than visual acuity (VA).
