Performance Enhancing compounds are those that increase work capacity, cardiac output, or muscular strength/endurance in exercise settings by various means.

Performance enhancement can happen through various mechanisms, such as buffering of lactic acid (as is the case with Beta-alanine) or via neurological means (as is the case, in part, with Caffeine).

Performance increases in which experimental subjects are able to exert more force, isometric strength, or have increased work capacity.
