Dietary Fiber or Prebiotic

A collection of non-digestible carbohydrates that pass through our intestines to be excreted unaltered or fermented by intestinal microbes. They can have mechanical properties (e.g., gel forming), prebiotic effects, and/or may serve as a substrate for the production of short-chain fatty acids via fermentation within the microbiome.
