Background

Collagen is a structural protein found throughout the body. It is especially abundant in the skin. Collagen levels decline with age, which contributes to the formation of wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity. This review describes the current research on collagen supplementation and skin health.

The study

This review includes six randomized controlled trials that investigated the effects of various hydrolyzed collagen supplements on skin health.

The results

The daily consumption of hydrolyzed collagen appears to improve many aspects of skin health, elasticity, dryness, and wrinkling.
