Do you have only one health goal? Probably not.

If you’re like us, you have a number of health concerns and goals.

You may want to build muscle while also dealing with diabetes.

You may suffer from back pain while wanting to improve your memory.

You could even be fighting multiple health issues — like cancer and heart disease — while trying to bring up your testosterone levels.

And if you’re a health professional, you not only have your own goals to pursue but also your patients’ and clients’.

And even if you’re not a health professional, you likely have friends and family who rely on you for health advice.

The good news: this is a golden age of research, with thousands of studies published each month on a wide variety of nutritional topics.

The bad news: no individual can possibly filter and review all those studies to determine which are the most important for your goals.

Understanding the latest nutrition research gives you an extra boost toward your health goals — and, if you have clients, puts you ahead of the competition.

How do you distinguish the signal from the noise?

Understanding scientific studies — instead of merely scanning abstracts or trusting in press releases — requires knowledge of methodology, statistics, and (depending on the topic) maybe chemistry or toxicology or some other area of specialization.

Not only does analyzing research require serious expertise, it also requires a lot of time.

It can be overwhelming when you can't find time or don't have the necessary expertise to make sense of the many studies published every month!

What you need is a trusted source to filter out the irrelevant studies, and provide unbiased summaries of the studies that matter to you.

That’s where we come in. We are 100% independent — we sell no supplements, offer no consulting, and have no ads; all we do is analyze and make sense of scientific research. Founded in 2011, we're an education company with over 45,000 customers who rely on our unbiased examination of nutrition and supplement research.

Every month, Examine Personalized provides you with summaries of the latest studies on the topics you care about.

And with 25 different health topics to pick from, you are guaranteed to only read about nutrition studies that are important to you.

Each summary conveys — quickly and clearly:

  • What the study was looking for
  • What was done and to whom
  • What the results were

Examine Personalized is the easiest way to stay on top of nutrition research for the health topics that matter to you.

For renown protein researcher Stuart Phillips, Examine.com is a signal in a sea of scientific noise

Very nice! Easily readable, searchable, and (as always) information is spot on and easily understandable... Examine.com does it again! Nice work!!

Stuart Phillips PhD | Director, Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) | Director, McMaster Centre for Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Research | Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, Skeletal Muscle Health

For John Berardi and his team, Examine.com is unbeatable value

When I was a grad student, it was easy for me to keep up with the latest research in exercise, nutrition, and supplementation. Of course, staying current was essential to my development as a scientist, writer, and coach. Nowadays, though, with the epic rate of research output in our field PLUS everything going on in my life (i.e. parent of four young children, founder of two businesses, author, competitive athlete) staying up to date feels impossible.

That's why I subscribe to Examine Personalized. Every month the Examine team pores over the latest publications to find, and summarize, the research I most want to know about. All that for just a few bucks. If you work in health and fitness, you won't find a better cost to value ratio anywhere.

John Berardi PhD, CSCS | Co-founder Precision Nutrition | Advisor to Apple, Nike, Equinox, and Titleist

Jennifer Sygo uses Examine.com to get “the lay of the land” quickly

Examine.com’s updates help me to stay on top of current research on supplements and diet trends. Their in-depth summaries are a great way to get “the lay of the land” quickly and efficiently.

John Meadows trusts Examine.com so he can focus on his clients

I tend be really busy these days which makes it really challenging to keep up with the latest research. If you know science, you know that reading and evaluating research is not as simple as reading an abstract. There is a great deal of nuance involved. Put more succinctly, I just don't have the time to do it justice.

So, what do I do? I use Examine Personalized. It consists of great summaries I can trust. It is invaluable for people like me who have a strong desire to keep up with science, but not a great deal of time to give it the proper study!

John Meadows IFFB Pro Bodybuilder

As an industry expert, Examine Personalized lets Gillian stay on top of the latest research in minutes.

Examine Personalized is my new favourite go-to for current research. Instead of spending my time on the tedious and time-consuming task of finding and reviewing abstracts, Examine Personalized is tailored to my specific interests and delivers just what I need to know – the key takeaways from the latest research. The brief summaries invaluable; they are clearly written, concise, and help me stay up to date with the research that is most relevant and important to me.

Gillian Mandich PhD

When James needs trusted nutrition information, he turns to Examine.com

I turn to Examine.com for quick, reliable data on a whole host of health topics. It's rare to find such guidance that is meticulously researched yet easy-to-digest, but Examine.com manages to deliver on both. I strongly recommend it as a trusted resource.

Is getting Examine Personalized worth it? See what existing customers have to say

Examine Personalized is for anyone who is interested in understanding the latest in nutrition research.

Here’s what a few of them have to say:

As a Registered Dietitian, I'm always looking to stay on top of the latest evidence-based nutrition literature. While the sheer volume of new nutrition research can get overwhelming, Examine Personalized has been a great tool for me to stay informed on the topics most relevant to my practice. — Dan Feldman, New York, USA

Examine Personalized will make the life of every evidence-based fitness professional vastly easier. Instead of having to hunt down new research relevant to our fields, we get it sent right to our inbox. And conveniently summarized, to boot. — Shane Duquette, Toronto, Canada

Such meaningful, powerful stuff, and a treasure trove for anyone interested in figuring out the components of good health and well-being. — Klaus Kaira, Helsinki, Finland

I love it. I struggle to stay up to date on research (so many irons in the fire, ya know) so I feel like this will make it so helpful to get a quick overview of what's going on. This will be SO helpful for my fellow nutrition/fitness bloggers (and really for anyone who is interested in nutrition) — Chrissy Carroll, Boston, Massachusetts

It is a great tool, which allows us to filter the studies of our interest and organize them in a very simple way, besides being constantly updated and adding content. I think it's an indispensable tool for anyone who wants to continue learning. — Dario Santana, Canary Islands

I was a trainer for 10+ years. In that time staying up to date with research helped separate me from the pack, and though I no longer work in the industry I do like to remain informed. I was able to try Examine Personalized early and loved it. It makes staying up to date super easy and it breaks down the research so it’s easily digestible. — Teiko Reindorf, North York, Canada

This is a great tool for finding useful studies without having to dig through all the journals that don't apply to what you're looking for. It is going to help me as a trainer with my clients. It's also going to help me live healthy while always keeping me on top of the current studies. — Stephen Obar, Los Angeles, USA

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all. The very point of Examine Personalized is to save you time.

Instead of sifting through thousands of studies by yourself, you delegate this task to our team, and we send you monthly summaries of the most important studies — the studies most likely to interest you, based on the health categories you selected. Each summary tells you clearly what the study was about, what it did and to whom, and what the results were.

Here’s an example:

Astaxanthin improves skin quality

Background: Like beta-carotene, the precursor to vitamin A, astaxanthin is a carotenoid found in carrots and other vegetables. It has shown a number of biological effects, notably on skin quality.

The study: This was a meta-analysis of 11 studies (including 6 randomized controlled trials) on skin health and appearance. The factors measured included moisture, texture, and wrinkles.

The results: Astaxanthin (3–12 mg/day) was found to increase skin moisture, improve skin texture, and reduce wrinkles over 2–16 weeks. Being lipid-soluble, it should be consumed with a fat-containing meal.

Note: Although there is good evidence that astaxanthin improves skin quality, the studies in this particular meta-analysis had mostly “high” or “unclear” risks of bias (so their data should be taken with a grain of salt). Additionally, most of them had fewer than 50 participants and were conducted in healthy Japanese females, so the generalizability of astaxanthin’s skin benefits is uncertain.

Once you're an expert, you have a lot of responsbilities, and keeping up with the research yourself is difficult — which is why experts come to us to save themselves time.

You want to stay current on the research in your field. If there’s new evidence for or against your current recommendations to your clients, or if some new research could help them, you want to be the first to know.

But then you fall behind and feel bad when a client or a colleague mentions an important study you’ve missed.

Even carefully automating searches and alerts isn’t a solution: you’ll miss stuff if you’re too specific and be overwhelmed if you aren’t.

No individual can sift through the thousands of nutrition studies now published each month.

One reason is lack of time. Another is that studies are written by specialists for specialists, so that even a health professional can have problems reading studies written for another health profession.

The added bonus of staying on top of the research is not only do you become the best, you also can generate more content much easier. Experts rely on our analysis to write articles for newspapers, blog posts for their site, newsletters for their audience, and even paid talks and webinars.

Not at all. Examine Personalized was designed from the get-go to serve the needs of anyone interested in nutrition and supplementation.

As you can see in the example above, we use simple yet precise language to make the content accessible without watering it down excessively. You get to learn quickly and easily what the study was about, what it did and to whom, and what the results were.

Even if you’re not a health professional, you likely have friends and family that rely on you for health advice. With Examine Personalized, you can keep up to date on nutrition research, and if you read dubious claims online, you’ll likely have recent evidence in mind (or at hand, at least) to clear the fog for everyone.

Here's a handy graphic that sums it up:

We focus on research on nutrition and supplementation in humans. We sometimes report on other types of health research, when specific studies are really compelling.

We offer over 25 at the moment:

  • Autoimmune Disease & Allergies
  • Cancer
  • Cannabis & CBD
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Cognition & Memory
  • COVID-19
  • Depression, Anxiety & Stress
  • Diabetes & Blood Sugar
  • Diets & Foods
  • Fat Loss
  • Gut Health
  • Healthy Aging & Longevity
  • Infants, Children & Teenagers
  • Herbal Supplements
  • Liver Health
  • Low-Carb & Keto
  • Men’s Health & Testosterone
  • Muscle Gain & Exercise Performance
  • Outside the Box
  • Pain, Joints & Bones
  • Skin, Hair & Aesthetics
  • Sleep
  • Vegan & Vegetarian
  • Vitamins & Minerals
  • Women’s Health

(The “Outside the Box” category is for studies that don’t fit in the regular categories but were too interesting not to mention.)

You can pick as many topics as you want.

You could be learning about the latest studies on the topics that matter to you in just a few minutes:

  • Instant access
  • New release every month
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

You can update the topics you want to follow at any time. You can also select as many topics (up to all 25) as you want.

Between 5 and 10, depending on what was published over the past month.

So if you select 10 topics, you’ll receive between 50 and 100 study summaries each month.

Yes — all of them.

And if you decide to terminate your subscription, you’ll still be able to access all the study summaries up to the month of your cancellation.

Absolutely. It's why we have such a strong guarantee.

Making it hard for customers to cancel a subscription isn’t just unethical, it’s one of the most incredibly stupid things any company can do. We favor another tactic to retain our customers: we work hard to offer products that make your life easier and healthier.

NOTE: we don’t sell or advertise supplements and don’t accept donations — not from companies, not from organizations, not even from individuals. Our information products are our sole source of income. If we treated our subscribers poorly or delivered subpar products, we wouldn’t be here (and growing) since 2011.

Examine Personalized subscribers get all the advantages of Examine Plus, which unlocks our continually updated database of human studies. You can search by supplement (400+) or health outcome (300+).

For instance, you can look at blood pressure and see which supplements have been shown to lower it, sort them by level of evidence or magnitude of effect, and get details on the studies included in our evaluation (age and sex of the participants, dosage used, duration of the study …).

The Nutrition Examination Research Digest is our star publication. It provides in-depth analysis and discussion of the most important of the recent nutrition studies. NERD subscribers also get all the advantages of Examine Plus and Examine Personalized.

Each of our 17 Supplement Guides provides clear instructions on what supplements to take (and not to take) based on a given health goal, with optimal dosages and combinations. It is the closest we offer to a “just tell me what to do” product.

What is Examine.com and why should you trust us?

  • Examine.com is an independent encyclopedia on supplementation and nutrition. We’re unique because we don’t sell supplements and aren’t affiliated in any way with any supplement company. When we recommend a supplement (or say another is ineffective), it has no impact on our bottom line. Consider us the Switzerland of the world of nutrition and supplementation.
  • Since our inception in early 2011, we’ve had but one goal: to be the best source of unbiased information on supplements and nutrition. Molecular biologists, biophysicists, pharmacists, dietitians, sports nutritionists, kinesiologists … the members of our team are all accredited experts, but with very different backgrounds, so that when we review research, we get the full picture. That’s why we have over 50,000 references on our website — we’re happy to show our work.
  • This single-minded dedication to providing well-researched, unbiased information has made us the #1 site for supplement information. Over 2.5 million people visit us every month. We have over 45,000 happy customers. And when major media organizations — the BBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Men’s Health, and many more — need experts, they turn to us.

About Us

Examine.com started because we were frustrated.

We were frustrated with supplement companies misrepresenting scientific research. We were frustrated with social media “influencers” peddling products they didn’t use themselves. We were frustrated with famous doctors and mainstream media disregarding context to produce sensationalist headlines.

This frustration drove us to create what we sought and couldn’t find:

Examine.com is a 100% independent company that lives or dies solely by the accuracy and usefulness of its analyses.

Since our founding in 2011, we’ve been working for you, and only for you. We don’t sell or advertise supplements and don’t accept sponsorship or donations — not from companies, not from organizations, not even from individuals. You are our sole source of income, so there is no conflict of interests: the only interests we serve are yours.

Or to put it another way, you empower Examine.com to keep providing unbiased information about nutrition and supplementation — two topics rife with misinformation and disinformation.

Back in 2014 Men’s Fitness called us game changers for bringing an evidence-based approach to nutrition and supplements.

Today, the hundreds of free articles on our website are read by 2.5 million visitors each month, and over 45,000 people have bought our publications. Medical doctors, dietitians, coaches, and personal trainers entrust the health of their patients, athletes, and clients to our analyses.

We are the experts other experts rely on. And like the health professionals, each time you purchase any of our publications, including Examine Personalized, you purchase thousands of work hours from a dedicated team of experts with degrees in nutrition, exercise science, public health, pharmacology, toxicology, microbiology, biophysics, biomedical science, neuroscience, chemistry, and more.
