Time-restricted Feeding Plus Resistance Training In Active Females: A Randomized Trial

Participants were randomly assigned to a control diet, 16:8 time-restricted eating, or time-restricted eating plus 3 g/day of β-hydroxy β-methylbutyrate. Each group had a 250 kcal/day energy deficit and performed a hypertroph-oriented resistance training protocol. A whey protein supplement was provided to ensure adequate protein intake. Physical activity was monitored using an accelerometer that was worn for more than four days on three separate occasions. At weeks zero, four, and eight two laboratory sessions were conducted. In the first, body composition, resting energy expenditure, substrate utilization, vascular measures, and subjective factors were measured. In the second, countermovment vertical jump, squat, and muscular strength and endurance on bench press and hip sled exercises were measured. Vertical jump and hip sled assessments were not performed at four weeks.
