Paleo diets encouraged grass-fed and pasture-raised meats, vegetables, fruits, fungi, roots, and nuts, limited refined sugars, starches, processed foods, and oils, and excluded grains, legumes, dairy, and refined foods; control diets were based on Dutch, Nordic, or Australian healthy eating guidelines, conventional heart-healthy and diabetes diets, a Mediterrenean diet, or a conventional low-fat diet. Duration ranged from 2 weeks to 24 months. Quality of studies was generally good.
