Notes for this study:
In a non-randomized, unblinded controlled trial, 262 obese participants were educated about a ketogenic diet, planned to contain 30 g of carbohydrates. The results were published after 2 years, and a control group that received no intervention was the comparison.

After one year, 218 participants remained, and after 2, 194 remained. The ketogenic diet group was on average in mild ketosis at the end of 2 years. Participants on the ketogenic diet saw much greater weight loss in the first year but gained a smaller amount of weight back after the 2nd. The improvement in glycated hemoglobin was much greater in the ketogenic group in the first year and similarly worsened slightly in the 2nd, as was the case with fasting glucose, and HOMA-IR.
