This randomized controlled trial’s main goal was to see if n-3 supplementation could impact inflammatory biomarkers in people with chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy (CCC). Chagas disease is caused by a protozoal infection affecting mostly people in Latin America. CCC is a possible consequence of Chagas disease, and the heart damage is related to inflammatory pathways. Since fish oil may impact inflammation, the authors conducted this study to explore fish oil’s impact specifically in people with CCC.
Funding issues for this study:
IL-10 levels were lowered after eight weeks of intervention. Triglyceride levels were also lowered by a borderline significant extent. No other significant impacts were found, including in other cytokines like IL-6 and interferon gamma.
