Supplementation of calcium (2g) during the second half of pregnancy appears to reduce the risk of preclampsia. While there was an increased risk of preclampsia and hypertension as a result of higher than normal blood pressure before pregnancy and higher BMI calcium supplementation could not ablate that risk.
