When observing older women who drank 1 liter or more of Yerba Mate daily for four years against women who did not, those who drank Yerba Mate had a 9.7% higher bone mineral density in the lumbar spine and 6.2% higher bone density in the femoral neck area.

Multiple regression analysis isolated only Yerba Mate and BMI as correlated variables.
