In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 64 obese participants took 2 g of spirulina platensis or placebo daily for 12 weeks.
The primary outcome was LDL and there wasn't a difference between groups. There was a greater reduction in weight, waist circumference, BMI, and appetite in the spirulina group, while there weren't differences in VEGF, triglycerides, HDL, or total cholesterol.
