Antioxidant Effect Of Astaxanthin On Phospholipid Peroxidation In Human Erythrocytes

6-12mg of astaxanthin with meals over the course of 12 weeks in otherwise healthy adults was able to increase red blood cell concentrations of astaxanthin without affecting other carotenoid concentrations, and due to this less lipid peroxidation was noted in red blood cells. No other parameter in safety testing was found to be influenced by supplementation.
