Values | (µmol/L) Mean and SD. Placebo: before 71.6 ± 22.8, after 63.0 ± 15.9. Astaxanthin: before 67.0 ± 17.8, after 61.5 ± 19.4. |
Trial Design | Randomized trial |
Trial Length | 1-6 months |
Number of Subjects | 20 |
Sex | Both Genders |
There wasn't a statistically significant difference in the change of c-reactive protein, though there was a notable increase in the astaxanthin group and a decrease in the placebo group. There wasn't a statistically significant or notable difference for the change in IL-6, and these were not comparable at baseline. There wasn't a statistically significant difference in serum IL-2 receptor, though astaxanthin saw a greater increase, and there was a greater increase in uric acid in the astaxanthin group, but this wasn't statistically significant.Funding issues for this study:
There wasn't a statistically significant difference in antioxidant vitamins, carotenoids, lipid profile, lipid peroxidation, liver enzymes, or fatty acids between groups.
