In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled safety trial, 35 healthy participants were allocated to take 3 capsules containing 2 mg of astaxanthin, 35 mcg of lutein, and 0.4 mg of rosemary oil daily, or placebo for 8 weeks.
Funding issues for this study:
There were no statistically significant or notable changes in glucose, BUN, creatinine, sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, carbon dioxide, total protein, albumin, globulin, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, AST, ALT, creatine kinase, or blood cells of any kind.
