Notes for this study:
In a randomized, double-blind, placeo-controlled trial, 23 Japanese participants with skin phototype II or III were allocated to 4 mg of astaxanthin or placebo daily for 9 weeks.

Minimal erythema dose was greatly increased by astaxanthin, the reduction in skin moisture in irradiated skin was reduced, and subjective skin quality was significantly better throughout the trial.

No severe adverse events were found.
