Topical Tretinoin Improves Photoaged Skin. A Double-blind Vehicle-controlled Study
Effect | Increase |
Trial Design | Double blind |
Trial Length | 1-6 months |
Number of Subjects | 30 |
Sex | Both Genders |
Age Range | 45-64 |
In persons with photoaged skin (35-70 years) given an 0.1% retinol cream nightly for 16 weeks improved skin quality relative to placebo cream in all subjects mostly by a reduction in fine wrinkling, but also with benefits in pinkess, coarse wrinkling, and tactile roughness.
During biopsy, forearm skin from the vitamin A treated arm appeared to be 273% thicker relative to baseline whereas placebo only saw an 18% increase.
3/40 subjects withdrew due to vitamin A related dermatitis, while most subjects had some degree of mild dermatitis associated with vitamin A not leading to discontinuation.
