In persons with Postoperative and traumatic swelling (knee surgery) given serrapeptase (dose not specified) or a control group of ice and bed rest noted that in the serrapeptase group swelling was reduced by 50% on day 5 and eliminated on day 10. No indication that any placebo controlling was utilized, although randomization was specified

In persons given serrapeptase at 30mg (10mg thrice daily) for 7 days after surgery (Caldwell-luc antrotomy) in order to assess buccal swelling noted that the serrapeptase group outperformed placebo in reducing swelling associated with surgery.
