Studies related to Inflammation and Serrapeptase

Comparison Of The Roles Of Serratiopeptidase And Dexamethasone In The Control Of Inflammation And Trismus Following Impacted Third Molar Surgery

Effect Decrease
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 1-7 Days
Number of Subjects 110
Gender Both Genders
Age Range 18-29, 30-44, 45-64, 65+
Body Types Overweight, Average
Notes for this study:
In patients undergoing jaw surgery (removal of third molar), 30mg serrapeptase daily for up to a week was more effective than placebo in reducing pain and swelling although trismus (opening of the jaw) was unaffected.

A Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Study Comparing The Efficacy And Safety Of Paracetamol, Serratiopeptidase, Ibuprofen And Betamethasone Using The Dental Impaction Pain Model

Effect None
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 1-7 Days
Number of Subjects 150
Gender Both Genders
Age Range 18-29, 30-44, 45-64
Body Types Overweight, Average
Notes for this study:
Relative to the comparator drugs (betamethasone and paracetamol), serrapeptase was less effective in reducing pain and inflammation associated with third molar surgery when taken at the standard 30mg dosage; relative to placebo, there was no significant difference.

Reduction Of Postoperative Swelling. Objective Measurement Of Swelling Of The Upper Ankle Joint In Treatment With Serrapeptase-- A Prospective Study

Effect Decrease
Trial Design Cohort
Trial Length n/a
Number of Subjects 66
Gender Both Genders
Notes for this study:
In persons with Postoperative and traumatic swelling (knee surgery) given serrapeptase (dose not specified) or a control group of ice and bed rest noted that in the serrapeptase group swelling was reduced by 50% on day 5 and eliminated on day 10. No indication that any placebo controlling was utilized, although randomization was specified

A Multi-centre, Double-blind Study Of Serrapeptase Versus Placebo In Post-antrotomy Buccal Swelling

Effect Decrease
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 1-7 Days
Number of Subjects 174
Gender Both Genders
Age Range 18-29, 30-44, 45-64
Notes for this study:
In persons given serrapeptase at 30mg (10mg thrice daily) for 7 days after surgery (Caldwell-luc antrotomy) in order to assess buccal swelling noted that the serrapeptase group outperformed placebo in reducing swelling associated with surgery.
