Four weeks supplementation of saffron (30mg in two divided doses) petal extract has failed to improve erectile function in men suffering general erectile dysfunction any more than placebo; Viagra as a reference drug was effective, and saffron actually appeared to have a nonsignificant negative trend during supplementation.

The majority of subjects (72.2%) had erectile dysfunction secondary to the vascular system, rather than neurogenic (3.5%) or psychogenic (24.3%).
