Safety Evaluation Of Saffron (Crocus Sativus) Tablets In Healthy Volunteers

Effect None
Trial Design Randomized trial
Trial Length 1-7 Days
Number of Subjects 30
Sex Both Genders
Notes for this study:
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 30 healthy participants took 200 or 400 mg of saffron, or placebo, for one week.

In the high-dose group, there was a greater reduction in standing systolic blood pressure and mean standing arterial pressure, but not diastolic or while sitting for any measure. Pulse rate also wasn't affected. There were small reductions in red blood cell count and hemoglobin in both saffron groups. Bleeding time and International normalized ratio was reduced in the 200 mg group but not 400 mg , while sodium, BUN, and creatinine were increased in the 400 mg group, while only creatine was significantly increased in the 200 mg group. Lipid profile wasn't significantly different for any of the groups.
