In a randomized, controlled trial, 280 type 2 diabetes patients drank 3 glasses of black tea with 1 g of saffron, 3 g of ginger, cardamom, or cinnamon, or only drank the tea, for 8 weeks.
The saffron group didn't see a change in weight, waist circumference, inflammation, metabolic, or lipid outcomes.
