Eight weeks supplementation of saffron petal extract (15mg crude extract per capsule conferring 300-350mcg safranal) twice daily over eight weeks in depressive persons relative to fluoxetine (no placebo control) noted that both treatments were effective in reducing depressive symptoms in a time dependent manner over 8 weeks as assessed by the HAMD scale.
