Saffron Improved Depression And Reduced Homocysteine Level In Patients With Major Depression: A Randomized, Double-blind Study

Notes for this study:
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 40 participants with severe depression took 30 mg of saffron or placebo daily for 4 weeks, both taking 20 mg/day of fluoxetine daily.

There was a greater reduction in homocysteine in the saffron group and while there was also a greater reduction in depression score, the difference wasn't statistically significant.
