In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 54 participants with type 2 diabetes took 300 mg of saffron or placebo daily for 8 weeks.
There wasn't a statistically significant difference for BUN, creatinine, uric acid, liver enzymes or metabolic equivalents.
