Effect of saffron (Crocus sativus L.) on lipid profile, glycemic indices and antioxidant status among overweight/obese prediabetic individuals: A double-blinded, randomized controlled trial

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 75 participants with prediabetes took 15 mg of saffron extract or placebo daily for 8 weeks.
There was a greater reduction in fasting glucose, HbA1c and a greater increase in antioxidant activity via DPPH. There weren't any statistically significant differences between groups for lipid profile, BUN, or creatinine.
