Notes for this study:
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 66 participants with schizophrenia took 30 mg of saffron aqueous extract or crocin daily, or placebo, for 12 weeks.

The saffron group saw an increase in white blood cell count, but not red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, or platelets. There weren't statistically significant differences for liver enzymes, urea, creatinine, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, c-reactive protein, T3, T4, or TSH, though TSH increased in the saffron group.
