Studies related to Alcohol Dependence and Yohimbine

Pharmacologically Induced Alcohol Craving In Treatment Seeking Alcoholics Correlates With Alcoholism Severity, But Is Insensitive To Acamprosate

Effect Increase
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length n/a
Number of Subjects 35
Sex n/a
Notes for this study:
After an infusion of yohimbine in a double blind manner, cravings for alcohol (in prior alcoholics) was increased slightly but significantly more than placebo; although the study design itself is impractical, it suggests that studies seen in rats of oral yohimbine decreasing the ability to resist alcohol apply to humans.

Anxiety was not increased under these circumstances, but cortisol, prolactin and ACTH were.
