Studies related to Respiratory Quotient and L-Carnitine

Effects Of L-carnitine Administration On VO2max And The Aerobic-anaerobic Threshold In Normoxia And Acute Hypoxia

Effect Decrease
Values Supplementation of L-carnitine led to reduced respiratory quotient during aerobic-anaerobic threshold exercise compared to placebo
Trial Design Randomized trial
Trial Length 24 hours
Number of Subjects 7
Sex Male
Age Range 18-29
Notes for this study:
In this crossover study, participants supplemented either 1.036g L-Carnitine or placebo three times daily for seven weeks leading up the testing period. Then, after a week long washout period, they took the other treatment. The test consisted of strenuous and anerobic/anaerobic threshold treadmill exercise in normoxic (20.9% oxygen) followed by hypoxic (13.0% oxygen) conditions.
