In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 75 participants with type 2 diabetes took simvastatin with or without 2 g of carnitine daily for 4 months.
There was a statistically significantly greater reduction in blood glucose, triglycerides, ApoA1, LP(a), and Apo(a), and an increase in HDL. There wasn't a statistically significant difference in BMI or HbA1c.
