Notes for this study:
This crossover trial had three arms, in which participants either took a 3 g glucose placebo for 14 days, a 3 g glucose placebo for 13 days followed by a 3g dose of l-carnitine l-tartrate, or 3g of l-carnitine l-tartrate for 14 days. The final dose was taken 3 hours before the exercise test. For the test, subjects performed 60 minutes of exercise at 60% of their VO2max. Expired gas was analyzed for 5 minutes every 15 minutes and blood samples were collected at the end of the exercise.
