Effect Decrease
Values pg/ml. Mean and SD. Placebo: before 9.83 (1.80), after 10.30 (1.56). Carnitine: before 9.82 (1.30), after 9.20 (0.91)
Trial Design Randomized trial
Trial Length 1-6 months
Number of Subjects 72
Sex Female
Notes for this study:
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 72 participants with osteoarthritis took 750 mg of l-carnitine tartrate or placebo for 8 weeks.

There was a statistically significant greater reduction in pain, IL-1-beta, and matrix metalloproteinase-1 but not 13 or c-reactive protein.
