Patients with chronic alcoholism who were experiencing cognitive deficits received either 500 mg of acetyl-l-carnitine or placebo four times daily. A battery of neuropsychological tests were performed at baseline, 45, and 90 days alongside routine blood and urine tests at baseline and on day 90.
