Trial Length | 1-6 months |
Number of Subjects | 30 |

Age Range | 65+ |
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 30 elderly participants with major depression took 2 g of acetyl-l-carnitine or placebo for 40 days.
Depression was reduced more in the carnitine group, while there was generally less cortisol secretion as well.
