Notes for this study:
In a randomized, controlled 14 participants took an intravenous glucose tolerance test in combination with 80 mg of carnitine for every gram of glucose administered, or saline. There was a statistically significant greater increase in glucose disposal when taking carnitine, without statistically significant differences in insulin sensitivity or insulin/c-peptide secretion. Respiratory quotient and carbohydrate oxidation increased statistically significantly when taking carnitine but energy expenditure wasn't different. Fatty acid levels decreased less when taking carnitine.
