L-tyrosine Pharmacotherapy Of Schizophrenia: Preliminary Data
Notes for this study:
||Non-randomized controlled trial
|Number of Subjects
In this double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with unclear randomization, 11 male participants with schizophrenia took 10 g of tyrosine or placebo daily in addition to an anti-psychotic medication for 3 weeks before crossing over.
There wasn't a statistically significant difference between groups for brief psychiatric rating scale, or for positive symptoms. Negative symptoms also weren't significantly different, and neither was abnormal involuntary movement and physical symptoms on the Simpson-Angus Scale. Memory and performance on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test weren't significantly different.
Smooth-pursuit eye movements were worsened, with more pronounced saccades in general.
