Supplementation of 100-200mg of a boiled extract of black cumin seeds for two months in hypertensive adults was able to very modestly reduce blood pressure (1-2mmHg for both systolic and diastolic) showing slight dose dependence. No other parameter was changed.

There did not appear to be any influence on processing accuracy nor working memory (digit span tests), but longer term and logical memory appeared to be increased alongside modest increases in attention and cognition in older male subjects.

A standard toxicology and lipid panel did not notice any abnormalities.

450mg of the seed oil thrice daily for three months in unmedicated persons with hepatitis C was associated with a very significant reduction in liver HCV RNA content (to 38% of the control group) and improvements in most serum parameters of blood and protein metabolism. Liver enzymes and cirrhotic score were mostly unchanged, although blood glucose was decreased.
