Treatment Of Brittle Fingernails And Onychoschizia With Biotin: Scanning Electron Microscopy

Effect Increase
Trial Design Cohort
Trial Length 6+ Months
Number of Subjects 22
Sex Female
Notes for this study:
In 22 patients with brittle and splitting nails (8 who gave nails as samples before and after biotin, the other 14 had biotin administration at times not fully compliant with the times the nails were tested), supplementation of 2.5mg biotin for at least six months was able to restore the thickness of the nails to that of healthy controls with no observable problems with their nails.

About half of the smaller group (4 out of 8) experienced benefits to nail splitting, and when assessed by electron microscopy all nails appeared to get some degree of benefits when compared to their own baseline values.
