The Effect Of Hydro Alcoholic Nettle (Urtica Dioica) Extracts On Insulin Sensitivity And Some Inflammatory Indicators In Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: A Randomized Double-blind Control Trial

Effect Decrease
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 1-6 months
Number of Subjects 50
Gender Both Genders
Age Range 30-44, 45-64
Body Types Overweight
Notes for this study:
Subjects received 100mg/kg Nettle Root (hydroalcoholic extract) daily for 8 weeks, had the pre-existing state of type II diabetes.

IL-6, a biomarker for inflammation, decreased along with C-reactive protein over the 8 week supplementation period. No effect on TNF-a reached significance due to variation at baseline and in control.

Weight and BMI as well as Insulin Sensitivity (measured by the Katz equation of fasting glucose and insulin (PMID:10902785)) were unchanged.
