Alpha-lipoic Acid Modifies Oxidative Stress Parameters In Sickle Cell Trait Subjects And Sickle Cell Patients

Effect Decrease
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length n/a
Number of Subjects 60
Sex Both Genders
Notes for this study:
Treatment of 200mg ALA daily was able to increase catalase and decrease glutathione peroxidase in patients of sickle cell anemia.

'Normal' healthy patients studied experienced a decline in both measures of lipid peroxidation and total body anti-oxidant status.

Catalse was noted to be increased while GPx decreased while SOD was unaffected.
