Treatment of 200mg ALA daily was able to increase catalase and decrease glutathione peroxidase in patients of sickle cell anemia.
'Normal' healthy patients studied experienced a decline in both measures of lipid peroxidation and total body anti-oxidant status.
Catalse was noted to be increased while GPx decreased while SOD was unaffected.
