Notes for this study:
84 endurance athletes were supplemented with _L. casei_ shirota (6.5 x 10^9^ CFU daily for 16 weeks) while training during the winter months. Most immunological parameters did not change except for salivary IgA levels, which increased after 8 weeks of supplementation.

The supplemented athletes experienced a decreased risk of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) symptoms. However, the severity and duration of symptoms, if displayed, did not differ as compared to placebo.
