Three groups were created; Cissus, CORE (Cissus + Green Tea + Soy albumin, chromium, and B-vitamins). Cissus was supplied at 2.5% ketosteroids, or 15mg daily. CORE was further divided into dietary intervention (2100kcal) or no dietary restrictions.
The group that took in Cissus itself at 300mg daily experienced a significant drop in weight (118.6kg to 113.8kg over 6 weeks) and a non-significant reduction in fat mass. This was in conjunction with a 2100kcal diet.
Significant decreases in total cholesterol and TGs were noted, LDL-C did not reach significance.
Increases were seen in plasma serotonin and creatinine, and a decrease in Malondialdehyde (MDA, biomarker for lipid peroxidation) was seen.
