Notes for this study:
In this preregistered trial, children who were prescribed antibiotics for upper respiratory infections received 150 mL/day of either kefir or heat-killed kefir (as placebo) for 10 days. Their parents were asked to make sure they drank at least half of the drink (75 mL) every day. There was no significant difference in the incidence of diarrhea between the two groups.

The kefir used in this study was a commercial American kefir (Probugs) containing the following probiotic bacteria: _Lactococcus lactis, Lactococcus plantarum, Lactococcus rhamnosus, Lactococcus casei, Lactococcus lactis_ subsp. _diacetylactis, Leuconostoc cremoris, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium breve,_ and _Lactobacillus acidophilus_, and the yeast _Saccharomyces florentinus_.
