Supplementation of 800mg valerian root extract (580 micrograms valerenic acid) failed to significantly improve insomnia in persons with restless leg syndrome (RLS), and overall there was no benefit to symptoms of RLS relative to placebo. When doing a subgroup analysis, persons who reported excessive daytime sleepiness saw mild benefit to RLS and this benefit correlated with the degree of daytime sleepiness.
