Application of a topical cream containing 5% niacinamide to one half of the face (placebo to other half) for 12 weeks in middle aged white females noted that the cream appeared to reduce instances of miscoloration (reddening and yellowing), fine wrinkling (crow's feet), and improved elasticity when measured at 12 weeks. There were minimal effects at four weeks and only a few benefits measured at 8 weeks, suggesting a chronic need for application.
